Having had a couple of fair lathes from well known companies in the UK, possibly manufactured in China, no problems with these, decided for an up grade, decided on the Midi 2 Plus, “Wow” the difference is amazing, the extra wide base makes the lathe so much more stable + the extra weight makes it vibration free, the 3 bearing headstock makes it smooth & so quiet, pleasure to use , German engineering ??. Highly recommended, also great service from Simon Hope( Hope Woodturning) Overall well worth the money.

The Midi 2 Plus wood lathe is the new version of the Midi 2. It features all the advantages of the Midi 2, such as the redesigned headstock design with triple spindle bearings and a tailstock with acme thread. The lathe also features a new, more solid bed, which is now compatible with the popular Midi 2/Midi Pro base. A 95 mm steel faceplate and a 250 mm knife rest are included. The machine also features a main switch and two-stage start-up and stop speeds.Â
Are you looking for a wood lathe robust enough to handle larger workpieces on your workbench? Or are you looking for a solid wood lathe with a base that won’t take up too much space in your workshop? Then the Midi 2 Plus is the right wood lathe for you! This lathe is equally suitable for detailed work and larger projects, whether it’s a deep vase or a bowl up to 35 cm in diameter.
The Midi 2 Plus is the new, improved version of the Midi 2 wood lathe. Like the Midi 2, the Midi 2 Plus features a new headstock design that allows for triple spindle bearings and an increased bearing spacing of 130 mm. The Midi 2 Plus is also equipped with a 250 mm knife rest. The optimized, mobile control box features an illuminated start button and an LED light that indicates active reverse.
All these features make the Midi 2 Plus wood lathe a compact yet powerful lathe for all kinds of woodturning work. It delivers enough power for bowls up to 35 cm in diameter, allows for the on-the-fly turning of larger hollow forms and vases thanks to its triple bearings, and is perfectly prepared for deep drilling in end grain thanks to the trapezoidal thread. At 65 kg, the machine remains mobile enough to be transported or relocated as needed.
Such small branches/trunks are a challenge for smaller benchtop machines. Working between the tips is often still possible with smaller machines, but when it comes to hollowing out vases or end grain of this size, it becomes considerably more challenging. Therefore, we triple-bearing the Midi 2 PLUS to enable hollowing out of this size. Combined with the new heavy-duty bench bed, it achieves exceptionally smooth operation for a compact midi bench.
Even though the machine is a “mid-size” machine, its technical specifications should not be underestimated. The machine can turn bowls and plates up to 35 cm in diameter, which is almost too large for most kitchen and living room tables. Our recommendation: With the optional 280 mm bed extension, the tailstock can be quickly pushed aside to create enough space for larger tubes.

The Midi 2 PLUS allows you to tackle even larger turning projects. Combined with the optional quartz-filled base, the machine becomes a powerful, smooth-running machine capable of processing even larger blanks.
The tailstock features a solid design with a 100 mm quill stroke and trapezoidal thread, ideal for deep drilling. The MK2 taper includes a measuring scale for precise drilling.
While the Midi 2 shares the bench bed of the tried-and-tested Midi 1, the Midi 2 Plus features a wider bench bed design with an additional 10 cm, bringing the total width to 30 cm. This allows the Midi Pro base frame to be used with the Midi 2 Plus. Filling it with quartz sand, for example, gives the machine a significantly higher overall weight, making the small Midi 2 Plus wood lathe a surprisingly smooth-running machine, even for larger woodturning projects.
The magnetic control box can be mounted anywhere on the bench. It features infinitely variable speed control and forward and reverse operation. When the machine is operating in reverse, an orange warning LED illuminates. The green start button is also illuminated green when active.
The frequency converter is the heart of the machine. It ensures consistent power transmission at any speed. It also features a main switch, a two-stage brake switch, and three pulleys with a wide speed range of 60-1000, 150-1900, and 350-3700 rpm.
